At Amare, the warmth of Jjimjilbang blends with the courtesy of each guest to create a true space of rest. Your thoughtfulness and personal awareness are the key elements that shape this refined, shared atmosphere. To ensure a complete experience for everyone, we invite you to join Amare in preserving the following cultural etiquette.
1. Outside the Sauna Room
The area outside the sauna rooms is a communal space where guests can relax, rest, and enjoy light conversation between sauna sessions. This is also what makes Korean Jjimjilbang culture unique — not merely a place for sweating, but a space for connection.
Keep quiet and avoid disturbing others
Jjimjilbang is designed to refresh both body and mind. Please speak at a moderate volume and avoid loud laughter so that every guest can enjoy their moment of tranquility.
Stay hydrated during your sauna sessions
High temperatures inside the sauna rooms cause the body to lose water rapidly through sweat. Be sure to drink plenty of water, herbal tea, or electrolyte beverages between sessions to stay hydrated and avoid fatigue or dizziness.
No running or jumping
Jjimjilbang floors are often made of wood or stone and can become slippery when wet. Running or jumping is not only dangerous for yourself but also disturbs other guests who are resting.
No loud noises
Silence your phone, avoid using the speaker, and refrain from playing music or videos out loud. If you need to use any entertainment device, please use earphones to keep the shared space peaceful.
2. Inside the Sauna Room
The sauna room requires the highest level of focus on personal experience. The rules inside are designed to ensure both relaxation and safety for everyone.
Silence your phone and do not use the speaker
Inside the sauna room, silence is essential for the body and mind to fully rest. Please keep your phone on silent mode, or better yet, leave it outside.
No talking
Unlike the communal area outside, absolute silence is expected inside the sauna room. This is the time for each person to listen to their body, feel the warmth spreading through, and cleanse the mind.
No eating or drinking
Please do not bring food or beverages inside the sauna room. The high temperature can quickly spoil food, and food odors will affect the experience of other guests. All eating and drinking should take place in the rest area outside.
3. Maintain Shared Cleanliness
Jjimjilbang is a space shared by many people at the same time. Each individual’s awareness of cleanliness is a way of showing respect to the community.
Always keep your area clean and dispose of trash properly
After using any area — whether a lounge chair, sauna mat, or dining table — please gather your belongings and clean up after yourself. Dispose of tissues, bottles, and food wrappers in the designated bins. If you spill water or food, please notify our staff for prompt assistance.
One small action from you contributes to a clean, comfortable space for everyone.
4. Do Not Use the Sauna on an Empty Stomach
This is an important health-related rule that many people tend to overlook. Sauna bathing requires a significant amount of energy, as the body is exposed to high temperatures for extended periods.
Refuel your energy before and after each session
Using the sauna on an empty stomach may cause dizziness, nausea, low blood sugar, or even fainting. Therefore, please have a light meal before entering the sauna — a moderate meal that is neither too heavy nor too light is ideal.
After your sauna session, your body also needs to replenish energy and fluids to recover. Guests are welcome to enjoy refreshing drinks and nourishing dishes at the Amare restaurant — where light meals and healthy beverages are specially crafted to complement your Jjimjilbang experience.
Jjimjilbang is more than just a sauna session — it is a distinctive Korean cultural practice where people come together to relax, connect, and recharge after demanding days.
At Amare, we are dedicated to bringing you the most authentic Korean Jjimjilbang experience — from the space and services to the cultural etiquette. Your cooperation in preserving these rules is the key to building a refined, warm, and memorable Jjimjilbang community.
Thank you for joining Amare in sharing the beauty of Korean culture.
